Content: | The Speaker will demonstrate how the 2009 bushfires in which 173 people died and 414 people were injured caused both the Victorian Government and the Victorian Community to concentrate their emergency risk mitigation strategies in a narrow defined area, ignoring an "all hazards" approach.
As a result community programs and agency preparedness was focused on "wild fire" mitigation despite the fact that the risk profile of many communities indicated this was not their highest risk. The September 2010, and January 2011 floods meant that both the government and the community were ill prepared to deal with other hazards.
The speaker then demonstrates how our organisations make exactly the same mistake all the time and provides examples of how we can prevent this from happening. View: PowerPoint Presentation File |
