During the Conference, we have arranged several technical site visits for you to tour some of Hong Kong engineering achievements. You not only get to visit the engineering facilities, we have also arranged with the host to give you a brief technical talk about heir systems. These tours are not normally open to the public and are made available to our Conference participants and their companions.

Since there are limited seats for each site visit. please fill in the site visit reply form and and fax the completed form to (852) 3013 8751 or via Email to Ms. Janice Chung as soon as possible. Seats are on first come first served basis and the tour may subject to cancellation if we do not meet a pre-determined minimum Number of participants.

Site Visit to Ngong Ping 360 Limited - Cable Car System on Monday, 19th May 2008 (11:00am to 5:00pm)

Ngong Ping 360 is a dynamic new tourism experience, which combines a stunning 5.7km cable car journey with an impressive cultural themed village and easy access to the Tian Tan Buddha Statue, the world’s largest, seated, outdoor, bronze Buddha statue.

Proposed Itinerary for the Site Visit:

  1. Coach from Kowloon Shangri-la at 10:15am
  2. Assembly at Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal (TCT) at 11:00am.
  3. Introduction to NP360 Cable Car System in Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal Office Conference Room -15-20 minutes.
  4. Visit to AIAS Control Room, Machine Room (by walking) – 30-45 minutes.
  5. Return to TCT (by walking) to take cable car ride – 15 minutes.
  6. Cable Car Ride from TCT to Ngong Ping Terminal – 25-30 minutes.
  7. Free time at NP Village (Last cable car from NPV to TCT at 6:00 pm)
  8. Coach from Tung Chung to Kowloon Shangri-la Hotel at 6:30pm

Site Visit to CLP Power Hong Kong Limited - System Control Centre on Tuesday, 20th May 2008 (2:00pm-5:00pm)

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited is the largest electric utility in Hong Kong serving the business and domestic community in Kowloon, the New Territories, Lantau and most of the outlying islands. Operating a vertically integrated electricity generation, transmission and distribution business, CLP provides a highly reliable supply of electricity and excellent customer services to over 5.5 million people in its supply area.

The System Control Centre is CLP Power’s system operation nerve centre. It directs, monitors and controls the safe, secure generation, transmission and distribution of electrical power on a minute-to-minute basis to serve its customers.

In this visit, you will touch on the application of the latest technologies on various control systems, such as Energy Management System, Distribution Management System and Lightning Location System in the Control Centre. You will also experience how the video display units, which replaced the traditional tiles map board, enhance the overview of the current state of the power system and provide key real time information for the control engineers to operate the system effectively and efficiently.

Site Visit to CLP Power Hong Kong Limited - Castle Peak Power Station on Thursday, 22nd May 2008 (2:00pm-5:00pm)

Operating by CLP Power Hong Kong Limited, the Castle Peak Power Station is one of the world’s largest coal and oil dual fired power station complexes. Being an environmental conscious corporation, CLP is active in implementing various control measures, and to adopt advanced technologies to manage emissions and waste. For instance, retrofitting of emission reduction facilities is currently underway to achieve substantial reductions of SO2 and NO2.

Inside the power station, the ElectriCity is CLP’s flagship educational facility in Hong Kong to provide an overview of Hong Kong’s power generation business, as well as the knowledge on environmental protection and energy efficiency.
